Storage Briefing / Field guide
Azure Blob storage planning checklist
Review Blob access tiers, region, redundancy, operations, and retrieval before estimating capacity.
Select the Azure Region and redundancy option that fit your workload and recovery requirements. A region pair or additional replication can change both resilience and cost. Check product availability for the specific account type and Region.
Choose an access tier
Hot, cool, cold, and archive tiers have different access patterns and operational requirements. Consider read frequency, retrieval latency, minimum storage duration, early-deletion rules, and rehydration when evaluating a less frequently accessed tier.
Include more than stored GB
List expected writes, reads, listings, lifecycle operations, and data retrieval. Network transfer and replication can affect the total bill. If the workload moves between tiers, model the transition timing and the charges associated with each step.
Verify current terms
Check Microsoft's official Azure Blob pricing page for the exact Region, redundancy, tier, unit, and transaction type. Record the verification date. StorageMetric leaves unverified rates blank and does not treat missing data as free.
